We are pleased to share the appointment of Margaret Coughlin as Senior Vice President, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer for the Mount Sinai Health System.
In this role, Ms. Coughlin will provide leadership and strategic guidance for all marketing, marketing communications, and branding efforts across the Health System, including our seven hospitals and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She will work closely with Dorie Klissas, Vice President of Marketing and Communications, and the entire marketing team, as well as with colleagues across the system.
Ms. Coughlin joins Mount Sinai from Boston Children’s Hospital, where she became Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing and Communications Officer in 2011. At Boston Children’s Hospital, Ms. Coughlin spearheaded a rebranding effort which included a reputation improvement initiative including external ratings such as U.S. News and patient engagement/reputation. She also drove a marketing revenue discipline that included increased customer digital engagement, revenue attribution, physician business development, and a strong international business development and expansion strategy.
Ms. Coughlin began her marketing career at Procter & Gamble, and worked with several international advertising agencies—Hill Holliday, Arnold Communications, and BBDO—in progressive leadership roles to strategize the marketing of a diverse group of national consumer brands. From 1990 to 1993, Ms. Coughlin was Chief Operating Officer and President of Cone/Coughlin Communications, a $30 million, 45-person public relations and cause-marketing company, with clients that included Hasbro, Reebok, the Massachusetts Anti-Smoking Initiative, and Polaroid. She served as Chief Operating Officer and President of Pamet River Partners, a direct marketing and promotions firm that served clients such as British Telecom, Iceland Spring Water, Fidelity, and Gillette, from 1993 to 1997. In 1997, Ms. Coughlin founded Intelligent Marketing Solutions, a marketing consultancy firm with clients including Credit Suisse, Northeastern University, and various midsize technology companies, and ran the firm until joining Boston Children’s Hospital.
Ms. Coughlin earned her MBA from Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts. She is married with two children.
