Yasmin Hurd, PhD Appointed Inaugural Director of the New Addiction Institute at Mount Sinai

We are delighted to share Yasmin Hurd, PhD, has been appointed as the the inaugural Director of the new Addiction Institute at Mount Sinai (AIMS). 


An internationally renowned expert on the neurobiology of addiction and related psychiatric disorders, Dr. Hurd uses multidisciplinary molecular, epigenetic, neuroimaging, and behavioral approaches to delineate neurobiological aberrations underlying substance abuse and comorbid psychiatric disorders. Her findings have provided critical translational insights about complex neurobiological disturbances that underlie addictive behaviors and the protracted impact on the adult brain of developmental drug exposure.


Since 2014, as Director of the Mount Sinai Center for Addictive Disorders, Dr. Hurd has overseen every aspect of addiction research at the Mount Sinai Behavioral Health System, from basic neuroscience to translational and clinical medicine. 


Dr. Hurd holds the Ward-Coleman Chair in Translational Neuroscience.  She has a joint primary appointment with tenure as a Professor of Psychiatry and of Neuroscience, with a secondary appointment in Pharmacological Sciences.
