We are pleased to share the promotion of Salvatore Loiacono Jr., MPA, to the position of Deputy Chair, Administration and Finance, for the Department of Ophthalmology, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He will also serve as Vice President of Ophthalmology Services at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai (NYEE).

In this role, Mr. Loiacono will partner with NYEE and Mount Sinai Health System leadership to develop and grow a center of excellence in eye care at NYEE. This includes the creation of a clinical eye institute at NYEE and support of the newly established Mount Sinai/NYEE Eye and Vision Research Institute.

In September 2014, Mr. Loiacono joined Mount Sinai as Vice Chair for Finance and Administration with the Department of Ophthalmology.  He has provided outstanding leadership in integrating ophthalmology clinical services and academic programs across the Health System.

Prior to joining the Health System, Mr. Loiacono was Chief Operating Officer for NJ Retina, an eye care provider that serves Northern and Central New Jersey.  He also served as the Administrator for the Department of Ophthalmology at the Edward S. Harkness Eye Institute at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center.

Mr. Loiacono is a board trustee for the University Administrators of Ophthalmology, a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology Executives (AAOE), and a Certified Medical Practice Executive with the American College of Medical Practice Executives (ACMPE).  He earned his MPA in Health Care Policy at Baruch College.
